Newly "Knighted" (not really) Chi rapper Sir Michael Rocks is all grown up and reaching his potential. His first LP, "Premier Politics," dropped this week featuring a handful of familiar names like Jeremih and Chuck Inglish.
Rocks, who has this British fascination, feels that this new distinguished flair will separate himself from the Illinois teen. This mix tape differs from the rest, because it offers a reinvented rap delivery that Rocks himself has spent time creating.
For the most part, Rocks is showing signs of sophistication and organization which is an improvement from years past.
One track that stands out is "Miss Jane", where Rocks teams up with Chi singer Jeremih over a strong beat by producer Alchemist. For a blast from Mr. Rock's past the track "Cell Dope" reminds us of the "Cool Kid" days. Rocks includes a couple of tracks using his old delivery to reach out to the broader audience, which works, but doesn't correspond well with the other tracks. I enjoyed a lot of songs off this tape, and you can do too by downloading it free online.
