Local Kevin Viol is one of those ridiculously talented artists who is so good, you don't want to admit that you're totally envious of the guy. Kevin is an established actor in Chicago's film and theater community who has been featured in award-winning and highly acclaimed productions. For instance, an independent film in which Viol produced, starred, wrote and recorded the music for entitled, "At Last, Okemah!," won the Audience Choice Award at the Chicago International Reel Shorts Festival. With his work on stage, both in front and behind the camera, in music, and, truth be told, the guy can seriously bust a move, Kevin Viol is the modern day triple threat entertainer.

With all that Kevin has done in the arts, a quick rise to the top of Chicago's indie music scene can't be far behind. Kevin's music is best classified as folk, yet his thoroughly modern take on this Americana genre makes his music a refreshing escape. Viol's thought provoking lyrics and soulful guitar hooks are combined with a passion so powerful it can be absolutely heartbreaking. His music invokes response, whether you want it to or not.

This December, Viol takes the stage showing off his musical skills for a show at Martyrs'. His live performances are the living, breathing extension of emotion that makes his music so striking in the first place. He performs with such fervor, you can feel it even if you're sitting in the back of the room.

Kevin is currently recording an EP that should be out in Spring 2012. Get a jump on everyone else by going to the show and experiencing the songs that will soon be on everyone's playlist.

Kevin Viol will be playing with Goat Motor, The Coda Kings and Falldown, Friday, Dec. 23 at Martyrs, 3855 N. Lincoln, 9 p.m. Tickets are $8. Check out his music here: http://www.reverbnation.com/kevinviol
