Breakfast at 3 a.m. anyone?

The Uptowner Café is a newly opened diner-style restaurant that is quickly becoming a Lincoln Park staple. Though the atmosphere could use some further cultivation, The Uptowner has two particular selling points: late night hours and monstrous portion sizes.

Though there are lunch items on the menu, this is a breakfast place. For $4.25 they offer a stack of two pancakes (imagine the size of an average dinner plate) or two slices of French Toast. And not "two slices" in the one-piece-of-bread-cut-in-half-equals-two sense; two thick slices of ciabatta bread exuding one sweet, sweet aroma. And these are just the "sides."

Regular entrees are about $7 to $8 and even more massive. The most popular dish is the Cajun Breakfast: "crispy hash browns grilled with green peppers, mushrooms, and onions covered with melted cheddar, two over-easy eggs, smothered in Hollandaise Sauce, sprinkled with Cajun spice, and served with Whole Wheat or Sourdough toast." Other popular menu items include the Andouille sausage and Intelligentsia coffee.

Overall, this isn't a place for showing off to visitors, but is just right for those late weekend nights. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Late night the café is open Thursday from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. All DePaul students receive 20 percent off with an ID and The Uptowner Café regularly posts deals on Groupon.
