Feeling overwhelmed by the lack of shoe options in your closet, but don’t want to blow another $100 on new heels? It’s time to pump it up by adding glitter to heels you may already own. To start, choose a pair of heels (stilettos recommended) and clean the bottoms in preparation.

The essential tools needed are paintbrushes, decoupage, sealing glue, glitter and tape that are carried at most arts and craft stores such as Jo-Ann Fabrics or Michael’s.

Once you have all the tools required and a spacious area to work in, you can begin. First, apply tape in the shape of a “V” where the outsole arch ends. The tape will mark where the glitter should stop.

Caution: don’t put glitter on the very bottom of your shoe past the bottom of the arch because it would make walking difficult and the shoe non-functional.

Next, paint the glue on with a thick paintbrush, dash glitter onto this area. Afterward, shake them off over a sink. Pay close attention to all edges, so they don't look sloppy.

After the paint is dry, add on another layer of glue to seal it in.

When the second paint coat has dried, tap the heels a bit with your hands to confirm the glitter is secured on really well. Otherwise, you might leave a glitter trail.

Don’t forget to polish your newly decorated shoes with a slightly wet cloth to remove any stray glitter. To pick up any glue debris, use scotch tape.

Finally, you are ready to showcase your sparkly heels to the world!
