It was announced Jan. 19 that junior forward Tony Freeland would transfer from DePaul due to a family illness in Los Angeles. The 6-foot-7, 227-pound forward has been sidelined for the 2011-12 season after undergoing shoulder surgery Nov. 2.
In two seasons, Freeland played in 57 games with averages of 6.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Freeland made 15 total starts and had averaged career highs of 9.6 points and 5.0 rebounds last season.
"I'm going to home to help my ill grandmother," said the Los Angeles native. "I want to finish school and the only way to pay for it is to play basketball at another institution."
"We support his decision to be closer to home and near his family," said Head Coach Oliver Purnell.
