1. Spring 2012 Visiting Speaker: Olivia Gude at McGowan South, Rm 105 at 1:30, 4/27

The DePaul Department of Art, Media and Design brings UIC professor and working artist, Olivia Gude, to campus to discuss her work, which is comes from the Chicago street mural tradition. Go to the event's Facebook page for more info.




2. "EL Stories" at Greenhouse, 4/28

Who doesn't have a funny horror story about riding the EL in Chicago? This show is an hour-long simulated EL ride, which tackles the sometimes funny, horrible, terrible or heart-warming occurrences with the CTA. It got a thumbs up from both the Reader and the Tribune. 3. International Obscura Day at various locations, 4/28

Organized by Atlas Obscura, an online travel guide to curious and unusual places, International Obscura Day celebrates all places and things unusual and adventurous. Join the fun by participating in a morbid scavenger hunt at the Art Institute, a tour of the obscure on Goose Island led by Forgotten Chicago, an event at Busy Beaver Buttons and much more. 4. Like Pioneers at Reggie's Rock Club, 4/28

Like Pioneers will preview their new album, "Oh, Magic," with the Irish opening band Autumn Owls. The LP "Oh, Magic" will officially be released on May 22 by the two-year-old band of Chicago musicians. Go to www.reggieslive.com for more.




5. Jimmy Santiago Baca at Harold Washington Library, 4/28

This New Mexican-born poet of Chicano and Apache descent will read his poetry at this free afternoon event. He ran away from home at 13, only to end up in maximum security prison at 21. It was in prison where Baca learned read and start to write poetry. Go to www.poetryfoundation.org for more.




6. Felix Da Housecat at the Mid, 4/27

Mayhem at the Mid brings this big name in house music to the clubby, DJ-friendly venue to spin alongside Chicago's own dubstep duo Midnight Conspiracy, Zebo and Orville Kline. 7. JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound at the Metro, 4/27
