Narcisco Gatica, 22, was sentenced to 90 years on Friday, Oct. 21, for the murder of DePaul honors student, Francisco "Frankie" Valencia.
"I feel like even that day he showed no remorse, no nothing," Frankie's brother Victor Valencia, 19, said. "I feel like at some point he is able to come forward with his actions and take responsibility with what he did and that one day things are better for us."
Gatica shot Frankie Valencia and 21-year-old Daisy Camacho, another DePaul student, at a Logan Square Halloween party in 2009. Camacho survived the shooting.
During the party, Gatica and a group of Latin Disciples were asked to leave, allegedly instigating the attack. At around 1:15 a.m., Gatica returned to the party with a semiautomatic TEC-9. Without designated targets, Valencia and Camacho became the victims.
Berly Valladares allegedly gave the gun to Gatica and was sentenced to 70 years in prison earlier this year. According to Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Mark Shlifka, "Without Berly Valladares, this tragedy wouldn't have happened."
"I feel like the experience is very numbing to go through," Victor Valencia said. "But at the same time, I feel like I'm glad that that chapter of my life is done and its over … I am looking forward to being able to move on with my family and move forward with this experience."
