Hi! My name is Courtney Jacquin. I am going to be a junior in the fall and I am the Arts & Life Editor.
I wanted to be the Arts & Life Editor because it’s the best way to combine my passion for art, music, fashion, film and writing.
When I’m not in school or working on the paper, my hobbies include hanging out with my orange tabby cat Pumpkin, cooking in my tiny studio apartment kitchen and running along the Lakefront trail.
On a Saturday night you’ll find me cooking dinner with my boyfriend and watching movies or TV shows.
My favorite thing about DePaul is the location – Chicago isn’t a typical college town and I love that.
The best class I’ve taken so far is Intro to Mass Communication with Dana Kaufman because though intro classes don’t go super in-depth to every topic, this class covered all aspects of the media and I LOVED that. It what other class will you watch clips from Mad Men and The Sopranos, watch documentaries on Blues and Punk, write midterm papers on Modern Family, and nerd out over laws that control censorship and first amendment rights?
I love eating blueberry bagels at Panera by myself every day while taking my lunch break at work.
I’m secretly obsessed with The Kennedy family, Gossip Girl, and ‘90s pop music.
You can’t take me away from my magazine collection. I have a hoarder-level collection of fashion magazines displayed on my bookshelf. It makes sense to be obsessed with the industry you want to go into, right?
This summer I’ve been working for StyleChicago.com and getting sunburns mostly. The rest of my summer will be more exciting though – I’m going to Pitchfork and Lollapalooza, visiting friends in New York and moving into a new apartment!
I can’t wait for the school year to begin because I have an awesome schedule lined up (news reporting, advertising, artists in contemporary culture, weather and climate, and a workshop on Adobe InDesign), and I cannot wait to start working on the printed copy of The DePaulia!
